Ie often it is companies, their employees [sometimes] and their shareholders [often in a different location] who gain from misusing natural resources. Even if those people have to pay part of the cost in their taxes, for them personally that cost is still less. I think?

The odd twist to this is that I know that if we reintroduce the microorganisms that were prevalent before we started "tilling the soil" we would find that MotherNature does take care of itself. While SOA smells slightly like OO from an application layer perspective, I'm not sure how simple it is to extend that methodology to an infrascture level..
